You can coat a floor, treat every bench, ground the whole room, and still have no real idea whether any of it works. Treatment without measurement is a guess, and a guess is exactly what fails an audit. ESD compliance verification is the step that turns a treated room into a documented one. It puts a calibrated meter on every surface that's supposed to drain charge and records what that surface actually reads, point by point, against the range it's required to hold. Without it you're trusting that the product did what the label claimed and that the installer applied it the way the datasheet assumed, and neither of those is something you can show an auditor. Applications go wrong in ordinary ways: a floor coated over a contaminated slab, a mat grounded to a point that itself isn't bonded, a treatment applied too thin to hold its rated resistance. What ESD compliance verification measures
The core number is surface resistance, or resistance to ground, measured in ohms at defined points across floors, benches, mats, and equipment contact surfaces. ANSI/ESD S20.20 sets the ranges those points have to fall inside, generally dissipative to conductive, low enough to bleed charge and high enough to stay safe near energized racks. ESD compliance verification reads each point against those ranges, records the ambient temperature and humidity because both move the numbers, and flags anything sitting outside the window. A floor that reads 1x10^12 ohms isn't draining anything, and it will feel and look identical to a floor that passes. Only the meter tells the two apart, which is the entire point of measuring instead of assuming. Handheld meters, a defined electrode weight, and set dwell times keep the readings repeatable, so two techs checking the same point on different days land on the same number rather than two opinions.
Numbers move, so conditions get recorded
Resistance readings are not fixed properties; they shift with humidity, temperature, surface contamination, and the age of the coating. A bench that passes on a humid morning can fail on a dry afternoon, which is why ESD compliance verification records the conditions alongside every value instead of just logging pass or fail. That context is what makes a baseline usable later: without the humidity noted, a future reading can't be compared honestly, and a normal seasonal swing either looks like a failure or hides one inside it.
